  • On 10 May 2022, global popstar Rihanna tweeted that Fenty Beauty , her cosmetics brand, would be selling in eight African countries from 27 May. Rihanna said the beauty and skincare products would be sold in Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Fenty Beauty then tweeted : Kenya!!! See y'all in Lintons Beauty! Shortly after the announcement, Lintons Beauty , a Kenyan cosmetics company, said it had clinched an exclusive deal to sell Fenty products in the country. In a reply to the Fenty Beauty tweet, a customer complained that the Kenyan brand treat(s) customers with attitude. A Twitter account with the name Lintons Beauty, using the Twitter handle @Lintons__Beauty responded : This is not true may be you are not the Target market. Surely @rihanna @fentybeauty of all the options you had you choose the most hated store in Kenya? A press statement with the news about Fenty Beauty was also posted on Twitter . All these showed the genuine social media accounts. Contacted, a spokesperson told Africa Check that @Lintons__Beauty was a fake account, smearing the brand online. Lintons Beauty opened a new Twitter account whose handle is @Lintons_LBW on 11 May 2022. The @Lintons__Beauty account is run by imposters. (en)
