  • A job advert claiming that South African logistics company Bakers SA Limited is looking to fill various positions has appeared across Facebook. According to the advert, Bakers is hiring drivers and general workers, as well as electrical and mechanical engineers and boilermakers Job applicants are asked to call human resources and a Mr Seroka on a provided cellphone number before you can apply. The advert doesn’t look professional. Is it real? Clues ad is fake The job advert does not appear on Bakers’ official website and nor is it on the company’s official Facebook page . Besides, it is unusual for companies to ask applicants to call their human resource department before applying for jobs. Job seekers who had called the number told Africa Check they were asked to pay cash in order for their application to be considered. The contact number in the ad is not the number on Bakers’ website . Applicants ‘not to pay anything’ According to Bakers’ recruitment manager, Mohammed Irfaan Osman, the company does not ask applicants to pay anything at any stage of an application. Osman told Africa Check: We are experiencing a large number of queries pertaining to vacancy adverts being posted on numerous websites on behalf of Bakers Transport or Bakers S.A. Limited. Please be advised that all Bakers applicants are to submit applications to [email protected] and no other email address please. Nor is any applicant required to pay any money at any stage of the process, said Osman. – Dancan Bwire (en)
