  • A grainy video posted on Facebook in Kenya shows motorbikes, cars and other vehicles crisscrossing a wide and busy intersection. If you have not been to Kisii town this is what you are missing, the description reads. Kisii is the capital of Kisii county in western Kenya. But the intersection does not look like one in Kisii. What’s going on here? Intersection in Ho Chi Minh City A reverse image search of a screengrab of the video leads to several videos, all showing a street in Vietnam , southeast Asia. In one video , it is described as an intersection in Ho Chi Minh City , Vietnam’s largest city. Another video is also described as showing a busy intersection in Vietnam. Africa Check found a related video from the search results, showing the exact place the previous video was taken. It is clearer and has more detail. It is also described as showing motorcycle traffic in Ho Chi Minh City. In a screengrab from one of the clearer, more recent videos , signage for a Petrolimex gas station is visible. Petrolimex is a petroleum gas company owned by the Vietnamese state. Using Google Maps , Africa Check reviewed all the Petrolimex gas stations in the city and the buildings surrounding them, comparing them to the buildings seen in the previous video . We pinpointed the exact intersection where the video was taken and can confirm the location is in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and not Kisii in Kenya. – Dancan Bwire (en)
