  • Social media has become the place many job-seekers look for work because information is easily and widely shared there. But it’s also stalked by scam employers. Fake ads for both government and private sector jobs have spread on social media recently, many using Google Forms for bogus applications. The latest is a job ad claiming to be from Kenyan supermarket Tuskys . It was posted twice on a Facebook page called Tuskys Supermarkets Recruitment on 11 February 2019. The post links to a Google Form titled Official Tuskys Supermarket Employment Form - 2019 intake. The salaries offered range from KSh18,500 to KSh34,500. All first time applicants must pay a registration fee of KSh350 only which is REFUNDABLE if you don’t qualify to get a job, reads the advert. It adds: ONLY APPLICANTS WHO HAVE PAID REGISTRATION FEE WILL BE CONSIDERED. The payment is supposedly for a Tuskys loyalty card and training for those who will qualify to work at the company. The post has about 2,200 comments, 10,000 reactions and 400 shares. Advert similar to other fakes The advert wasn’t posted on the retailer’s official Facebook page , which has more than 170,000 followers, but on a fake page with nearly 2,000 followers. It’s similar to one posted on 25 January 2019 on the fake Tuskys Supermarket Jobs Facebook page, advertising the same positions for the same KSh350 fee. ‘Fake pages, fake recruitment’ says Tuskys Tuskys warns on its official Facebook and Twitter accounts that it’s not hiring, and that people should beware of being conned. Fake page, fake recruitment. The information going on a fake Facebook page - Tuskys Supermarket Jobs, is false. Tuskys does not charge any fees whenever we are doing recruitment for whatever position that may open up. -Nem pic.twitter.com/WsEHnK75ek — Tuskys (@TuskysOfficial) February 28, 2019 Fake pages, fake recruitment, it says .
