  • A post by South African news website iReport claims US stand-up comedian and actor Kevin Hart was in a car accident in the US city of Los Angeles which left him paralysed. The report was posted on 2 September 2019 and it and other similar articles have been shared on Facebook. It said that the actor and two other passengers were involved in a car crash on Mulholland Highway and that according to medical sources at [University of California Los Angeles] Medical centre Hart was paralysed from the neck down, including both vocal cords. Story widely debunked Fact-checking sites Lead Stories and PolitiFact recently debunked the claim, rating it false. Politifact said that US media reported that Hart suffered three spinal fractures and underwent surgery but did not suffer any paralysis, nerve damage or numbness. Lead Stories said that while Hart was involved in a crash, the story about the paralysis and vocal cord injuries was made up by a website with a history of inventing fake stories about various celebrities under the guise of satire. Kevin Hart fine, out of hospital On 11 September 2019, a number of news websites and Hollywood gossip sites reported that the actor was out of hospital . A fellow actor, Dwayne Johnson, who stood in for Hart at a show he was meant to attend, also said that Hart was doing fine. I spoke with Kevin, I actually refer to him as my son, said Johnson, joking about Hart's smaller size . I connected with him today. And you know what? These things happen in life and thankfully he was strapped in nicely to his car seat. – Jennifer Ojugbeli (en)
