Job seekers try this, job vacancies available, reads a job ad seemingly by Mombasa Maize Millers, a major Kenyan miller, posted on Twitter. It lists several positions available at the company, such as lab technicians, grounds keepers, plumbers, field officers, marketing officers and machine operators. Mombasa Maize Millers is a flour manufacturing company with several brands in its stable including Taifa, Salsa, Halisi, Bora, Sunsalt, Ndovu, Swan, Cosmo and Faida Feeds. All applicants must have major school leaving certificates and a diploma degree from a recognised institution, the ad claims. It then gives an email address for candidates who meet these requirements. But is this a legitimate call for jobs at Mombasa Maize Millers, which would attract many, given high unemployment in Kenya? Vacancies are posted on official social media pages The advert’s odd punctuation, poor graphic quality and the use of a Google Mail address to receive applications are signs that it’s a scam. In response, the company posted on their official Twitter page that the job ad was not authentic.
