Brownback is right when he says 36 percent of children in the United States are born out of wedlock.The latest data available is from 2005, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control's National Center for Health Statistics.The proportion of births to unmarried women increased in 2005 to 36.8 percent, compared with 35.8 percent in 2004, the report stated. The proportions increased for all population subgroups by race and Hispanic origin.
