  • A Facebook page BOXER needs to increase their staff has published various job adverts on Facebook since late September 2020. The Facebook page uses the name and branding of South African supermarket chain Boxer and links all its posts to a suspicious website, where job-seekers are encouraged to apply. The website lists other job ads for unrelated companies , including Kentucky Fried Chicken and the South African Social Security Agency . It seemed unlikely that any of these job listings were legitimate, but we took a closer look. Contradictory, suspicious links The Facebook posts claim Boxer needs 3,600 general workers and cleaners but a banner on the website contradicts this, saying there are 5,000 open positions. Even more suspiciously, clicking through to the Boxer ad on the website redirects to a page giving details about supposed jobs at Danone , a multinational food company which also operates in South Africa. This job listing is poorly written, including sentences that do not make sense, like: View extra insights in regards to the Danone Entry stage place Program and ship your software on the off likelihood that you just qualify. No links to Boxer None of the links in the posts or on the Facebook page lead to any official Boxer website or to the official Boxer Facebook page . The Boxer Facebook page was created on 9 November 2011. It can be accessed from the Boxer website and vice versa. By comparison, the suspicious Facebook page was only created on 21 September 2020. If a social media account claiming to represent a well-known brand is very new, it is often an indication it’s an imposter account. Jade Skinner, Boxer’s digital marketing coordinator, told Africa Check the page is fake and that Boxer doesn’t advertise jobs on social media at all.
