  • The Facebook page Quickmart Supermarket is scamming unemployed people out of money by offering nonexistent jobs at Kenya’s Quickmart supermarket chain – with an application fee. Posts on the page claim hundreds of job vacancies at the supermarket are up for grabs. A recent post claims that 1,378 employees are urgently needed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It links to a Google Form – a familiar job scam tactic – where people can supposedly apply. A mouth-watering salary of at least KSh18,500 for interns and KSh28,000 for staff is offered . But the form displays the old trick of requiring applicants to pay for their job application. This time the fee is KSh350, to be paid by M-Pesa mobile money transfer, and only those who pay will be considered. This is a clear sign that the page and the post are a scam. No application fee for Quickmart jobs The fake Quickmart Supermarket page was created on 10 April 2020 and has 1,600 followers. The official Quickmart Facebook page was created on 3 July 2015 and has 13,000 followers. The supermarket’s official website links to this page. Quickmart’s name has been frequently used by scammers. The company continues to warn the public that it does not charge any application fee for job vacancies.
