  • A Facebook user with over 5,000 followers posted a photo of what seemed to be a job advert by the Kenya Ports Authority . It said the state agency was looking to hire 140 people, aged 18 to 35, who had graduated from a recognised university between 2012 and 2018. The ad said job-seekers should have degrees or diplomas in one of a number of disciplines, from information technology to human resources. It said applications should be sent to a Gmail address by 7 February 2019. Comments on the post flagged the ad as fake, especially given the email address. But that hasn’t stopped it being shared over 30 times. ‘This is a hoax’ The ad is indeed fake. In a post on its official twitter account and website , the Kenya Ports Authority warns people not to buy into the advert . We wish to clarify that KPA has a clear recruitment policy which includes publishing of vacancies in the mainstream newspapers and on the KPA website www.kpa.co.ke , the warning reads. Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore the messages circulating on social media and other online platforms purporting that KPA has advertised 140 vacancies targeting diploma and degree holders. This is a hoax. The agency has also asked the public to report similar frauds to the police. We therefore advise members of the public to beware of such conmen/fraudsters and to immediately report any such incidents to the Authority or the nearest Police Station. – Dancan Bwire (05/02/19) (en)
