A video shows migrants rioting in Denmark. It’s actually from anti-government protests in Algeria. Footage claiming to show migrant hordes clashing with police in Denmark has been shared on Facebook over 700 times, and across social media. However, the footage is not from Denmark but from ongoing anti-government protests in Algeria. As noted by AFP, the police vans visible in the video are similar to those used by the Algerian police. AFP also states that the specific streets that appear in the video closely resemble some of those in the country’s capital, Algiers. Denmark did experience rioting last month in response to a far-right activist publicly desecrating the Quran in Copenhagen. This article is part of our work fact checking potentially false pictures, videos and stories on Facebook. You can read more about this—and find out how to report Facebook content—here. For the purposes of that scheme, we’ve rated this claim as false as the footage is not from Denmark, and not of migrants, it is from anti-government protests in Algeria.
