  • Was a Florida Teacher Fired for Blaming the Capitol Riot on ‘Antifa’? Claim A substitute teacher in Florida lost her job after being caught on video blaming antifa for the January 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Rating True Like this fact check? Reporting A Florida woman was dismissed from working as a substitute teacher for a Florida charter school system after she was caught on video attempting to justify the seditious January 6 2021 attack on the United States Capitol building. The unidentified woman’s rant was first brought to light on January 12 2021 on the Instagram account knowyourracists, which published footage of her telling students at the Edward R. Bok Academy South — falsely — that the attack was carried out by antifa, the catch-all right-wing term for people opposing them. According to the post : She was a substitute teacher in the middle school’s language arts class. She has been dismissed from the Lake Wales Charter School System she just RANDOMLY started talking about this in 1st period, it was language arts class and we were about to do work when she started talking about the Capitol raid. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Remember (@knowyourracists) As the Daily Dot first reported : During a brief pause in the teacher’s baffling false narrative, the student filming pipes up with a question: Well, didn’t Proud Boys and Trump supporters, weren’t they the ones who broke into the Capitol? The teacher immediately jumps to the defensive. No, she blurts out, cutting off the student’s final words. In fact, there’s video showing Trump supporters trying to stop the people breaking windows. The courageous student speaks up again, noting that most of the people seen breaching the Capitol were wearing MAGA hats. Anybody can put on a MAGA hat, the teacher fires back. When they’re paid to be there and cause a riot, they want to make it look like Trump supporters, so they wear Trump hats and carry Trump flags. Does that make them Trump supporters? No. On January 14 2021, the online magazine YourTango reported that the teacher was fired, citing a statement from principal Damien Moses. We understand there’s a video released and shared on social media of an incident on our campus. Our administration is aware, Moses said. The substitute is no longer employed at our school, nor within the LWCS system. Moses also told TMZ that the woman was fired. We contacted the school, as well as its two trustee representatives on the Lake Wales school board Paul Gerrard and Howard Kay and Moses seeking comment. None of them have responded. While right-wing blogs and media outlets have attempted to portray the January 6, 2021 attack against the Capitol as a left-wing or anti-fascist (antifa) plot, records have shown that the riot was the work of supporters of outgoing United States President Donald Trump — including Republican Party officials, as well as off-duty or retired law enforcement and military members.
