  • ALL THE MONEY THAT WAS COLLECTED BY TASK FORCE TO FIGHT COVID-19 WAS STOLEN, reads the headline of what seems to be the front page of the 17 September 2020 edition of Uganda’s New Vision newspaper. Data from CrowdTangle , Facebook’s public insights tool, shows that the front page image has been shared hundreds of times, prompting thousands of reactions. Africa Check has previously debunked a photoshopped version of a New Vision front page. Is this one real, or another fake? We checked. ‘Breakthrough treatment for Covid-19’ The headline is uncharacteristic of New Vision ’s style, with the text squeezed and a bit smaller than the daily’s typical front page headline. And just above the main picture there’s a hint that the page was edited and the text inserted. A search of the New Vision epaper portal found the real 17 September 2020 front page – with a different headline. It reads : MULAGO STARTS BREAKTHROUGH TREATMENT FOR COVID-19. The paper has also posted the real front page for 17 September on its verified Facebook page. – Grace Gichuhi (en)
