A Facebook post claims that the southern African supermarket chain Spar is hiring. It shows a photo of a woman in a Spar branded uniform. The post says jobs are available for general workers with or without matric. Applicants are asked to comment YES so they can be inboxed a fax number. The post includes a link to a page where people can supposedly apply online. But the link is not to the official Spar website . Instead, it takes you to a blank web page with a single link on it. If you click that link, you are taken to yet another website . None of the sites have anything to do with Spar. This setup is similar to a number of other Facebook pages Africa Check has investigated for posting false job ads. Spar doesn’t advertise jobs on Facebook Spar’s official South African website says that the company advertises jobs on South African online recruitment platform PNET . We have teamed up with PNET, one of South Africa’s largest online career portals, to advertise vacancies, it says . Val Pillay of Spar’s service bureau previously told Africa Check that vacancies at the head office are not advertised on Facebook. This ad does not specify a specific store or office, but it is clearly a scam. – Africa Check
