A video shared on Facebook purportedly shows advanced robots that actually exist. Verdict: False The video does not show a genuine robot. The footage was actually produced using computer-generated imagery (CGI). Fact Check: The video in Facebook post depicts a robot modeled after a human, firing guns at targets in a desert-like environment while being pushed and struck with objects by other people. At the end of the video, the robot shoots at the feet of two men before picking up a smaller four-legged yellow robot and running away. A watermark reading Bosstown Dynamics can be seen throughout the video. The video, however, does not show a genuine robot. Check Your Fact found the video published on YouTube in October 2019 by video production company Corridor Digital , known for producing videos using a variety of visual effects, including CGI. The About page of Corridor Digital’s YouTube channel reads, Videos you didn’t think were possible, created by Sam and Niko and the Corridor Crew! The company, the next day, posted another video titled, We Used CGI to Fake Military Robots showing how they used visual effects to portray the robots in the original video. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Chinese Dancing Robots?) The watermark on the video, Bosstown Dynamics, seems to be a parody of a real engineering and robotics design company Boston Dynamics . Corridor Digital discussed the robotics company in the video We Used CGI to Fake Military Robots. A March 28 60 Minutes report about Boston Dynamics featured many of the company’s robots, including two — Atlas and Spot — which closely resemble the robots in Corridor Digital’s video. The recent report on the company, along with the similar-looking robots, may have confused social media users into thinking Corridor Digital’s video actually showed real robots.
