  • A photo of a damaged road has been shared thousands of times in multiple Facebook posts that claim it shows the aftermath of a powerful earthquake that struck Afghanistan in June 2022. However, the claim is false; the photo actually shows a road damaged by a major earthquake in Pakistan-administered Kashmir in September 2019. A photo showing people standing over a severely damaged road was posted on Facebook on June 23, 2022, where it has been shared more than 3,100 times. Over 1,000 martyred and more than 1,500 injured in a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan, the post's Urdu-language caption reads. The photo was shared days after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan's remote eastern border region on June 21, 2022, killing at least 1,000 people and injuring 1,500 others, AFP reported . The photo has been shared 480 times after appearing with a similar claim elsewhere on Facebook here , here , here and here . However, the claim is false. A reverse image search on Google found that the photo was published here by the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in September 2019. The photo's caption reads: A view of damaged road caused after an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude with epicenter in Mirpur , Pakistani administered Kashmir, 24 September 2019. According to initial reports at least 6 persons were killed and dozens injured in the incident.
