  • An image has been shared repeatedly in Burmese-language Facebook posts that claim it shows anti-coup fighters in Myanmar performing a gymnastics stunt. This is false. A closer analysis of the photo found the man pictured at the top of the human pyramid is holding a Bangladeshi flag. A former Bangladesh military officer told AFP that some people in the photo’s background were wearing uniforms that correspond with those worn by the Bangladeshi police and cadets. The photo was shared on Facebook here on August 11, 2022 alongside a Burmese-language caption that translates to English as One of the PDF’s skills. Screenshot of the misleading Facebook post taken on August 12, 2022 Myanmar has spiralled into a civil war after a military coup ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi from power in February 2021. Many young protesters turned themselves into anti-coup fighters or People’s Defence Force (PDF) after receiving military training in ethnic armed organisations controlled areas since the brutal military crackdown . The same photo was shared here and here , alongside a similar claim. The claim, however, is false. A reverse image search on various search engines found the same photo was shared on various Bangladeshi social media posts including here and here . The flag seen at the top of the photo corresponds with the Bangladesh national flag. A similar photo of the Bangladesh flag can be seen published here by AFP.
