The Truth: Take a Knee appeared at Ted Nugent’s Facebook page, but Nugent isn’t the commentary’s original author. Take a Knee was quickly shared more than 155,000 times after it appeared at Ted Nugent’s Facebook page on September 24, 2017. The bottom of the commentary clearly states, by Stanislaus Drew, but Nugent was misidentified as the author by Penn Live and countless social media users. The Christian Index republished the commentary in September 2017 with a footnote explaining that Drew originally wrote it as a guest columnist in 2016 after former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the National Anthem demonstrations . The commentary encourages NFL players to visit Valley Forge, the beach in Normandy, the jungles of Vietnam and the sands of Fallujah and totake a knee while visiting the sites of famous battles: There are a lot of places to take a knee where Americans have given their lives all over the world.. When you use the banner under which they fought as a source for your displeasure, you dishonor the memories of those who bled for the very freedoms you have. That’s what the red stripes mean. It represents the blood of those who spilled a sea of it defending your liberty. It should be noted that some versions of the commentary have been attributed to Richard Miller, USMC, but we haven’t been able to confirm his identity or any other details due to lack of information.
