  • Example: [Collected via e-mail, January 2010] Repost-ALERT Has your facebook been running slow lately? Go to Settings and select application settings, change the dropdown box to added to profile. If you see one in there called unnamed app delete it... Its an internal spybot. Pass it on. I actually found in my Apps ............pass it along This was there... This was messing up some of my other apps. Deleting it fixed the problem. Origins: The above-quoted alert about an Unnamed App in Facebook's profile settings which purportedly harbors a spybot began circulating in January 2010. There appears to be nothing to the warning: As noted in Facebook's Help Center, the Unnamed App merely links to a setting that controls the boxes tabs in users' profiles — delete the app, and boxes tabs disappear; add profile boxes back, and the unnamed app reappears. (Some users have reported that, nonetheless, Facebook appeared to load faster for them after they removed the unnamed app from their profiles.) As usual, a number of sites on the Internet purporting to carry information about this warning themselves harbor forms of malware or spyware, so be cautious when searching for information and try to stick to reputable, trusted sites.
