  • ‘A Florida Woman Has Been Accused of Driving a Motorized Shopping Cart Through Target, Drinking Wine, Eating Sushi and Cinnamon Rolls’ Claim Mugshot depicts a Florida woman, accused of driving a motorized shopping cart through Target, drinking wine, eating sushi and cinnamon rolls. Rating Decontextualized Like this fact check? Reporting On September 16 2020, a Facebook page shared the following highly questionable screenshot about a Florida woman purportedly accused of drinking wine and eating sushi and cinnamon rolls while riding on a motorized shopping cart in a Target store: https://www.facebook.com/propagandapage/photos/a.682136368593465/1778120815661676/?type=3&theater Above a black and white purported mugshot, text attributed to Fox 4 read: A Florida woman has been accused of driving a motorized shopping cart through a Target while drinking wine from the bottle and eating sushi and cinnamon rolls. Although the screenshot approximately resembled a Facebook post, the font and syntax of the text content did not match news posts — and the date and timestamp were not visible. Also, despite the Florida woman claim, it appeared the mugshot involved a sign reading Atlanta, GA. On December 28 2015, WFTX-TV shared a somewhat similar post to their Facebook page (Fox 4): https://www.facebook.com/Fox4FortMyers/photos/a.426307352693/10153250945147694/?type=1&theater Not only was the image clearly different, the content of the post also didn’t exactly match. It read: A Florida woman has been accused of taking methamphetamine and driving a motorized shopping cart through a Wal-Mart while drinking wine and eating sushi and cinnamon rolls. Lopez, 25, consume $32.36 worth of food and wine inside the Lecanto store ... Lopez told authorities she was homeless and hungry and had just injected herself with methamphetamine. Three versions of the screenshot were shared to meme aggregator iFunny.co: one on June 20 2018 , one on March 7 2019 , and one on March 26 2019 . All three retained the timestamp and date, but the two from 2019 featured the unrelated Atlanta, GA mugshot. As for the black and white mugshot, it showed (and was uploaded by) WWE wrestler Becky Lynch in February 2019: Ronda, you go back and get that BELT because I didn’t come this far to collect it from Stephaine. I came all this way to take it from you. pic.twitter.com/ap3Q6cBRP2 — The Man (@BeckyLynchWWE) February 27, 2019 A Bleacher Report post at the time described the mugshot as part of a wrestling storyline: Following her storyline arrest on Raw [on February 25 2019], Becky Lynch shared her mugshot on Twitter. The Man couldn’t help but get another dig in on Raw women’s champion Ronda Rousey in the process. A December 2015 WFTX-TV/Fox 4 Facebook post about a Florida woman’s arrest subsequently spread intermittently in screenshots, and in 2019, WWE wrestler Becky Lynch’s storyline mugshot was substituted in memes. Early iterations retained the date and timestamp of the original post, but a version spreading in September 2020 elided the nearly five-year-old stamps and spread further. Although there was a grain of truth to the arrest story — which was more tragic than funny when read in its entirety — it was presented in a misleading fashion in later iterations.
