A video posted on Facebook claims Nigeria’s keke Napep tricycles are now operating in the UK. It shows footage and photos of yellow and black three-wheeled vehicles – known as keke Napep in Nigeria, tuk-tuks in South Africa and auto rickshaws in India – in landmark London settings. More recently, screenshots of the post have been circulating online, after the Lagos government restricted activities of commercial keke Napep tricycles in 15 of the state’s local councils. It said the move was to protect lives and property. Users have questioned why Lagos was restricting the keke Napep, when it was being used in London. But does the keke Napep operate in the UK? Marketing campaign for Ola Cabs Ola Cabs is an Indian ride-hailing company serving more than 250 cities in India, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The cabs are cars, not auto rickshaws. But during the UK launch of the cabs in Liverpool in 2019, the company used auto rickshaws in a marketing campaign. It is a unique marketing activation campaign, to grab eyeballs, Ola Cabs said in a report. The rides are free and for just a short while so that consumers know that Ola will launch its cab services in the city. But rest assured, we are not launching rickshaws there.
