  • Nursing students in Kenya have been receiving a text message about upcoming licensure exams. The message claims to be from the Nursing Council of Kenya , or NCK, which regulates the nursing profession in the country. It reads: Dear Candidates, we wish to inform you that the NCK licensure examinations for the month of April 2020 will start from 25th May for the rehearsal and the main papers from 27th and 28th.... Please dear candidate.. Report to a near by facility that offers nursing course that is recognised in Kenya for more information... Call 0715397462 all the best in your exams. To practise nursing in Kenya, candidates must sit the council’s national licensure exam. We checked if the nursing regulator sent out the message . ‘Disregard the message’ The message’s sloppy writing and poor punctuation indicate that it is unlikely to have been written by a professional organisation. The NCK tweeted a screenshot of the message stamped FAKE in red. They wrote : We are aware that the message below has been circulating on various social media platforms. We ask the candidates to disregard the message as fake. They said all messages from the Nursing Council of Kenya are sent via the official email [email protected] or our Facebook and Twitter pages. The NCK also published a post on Facebook noting that the fake message had been reported to the police. – Grace Gichuhi (en)
