  • A video of a dirty aircraft cabin has been viewed thousands of times in multiple Facebook and Twitter posts published in June 2019 which claim it shows a British Airways flight from London to Islamabad. The claim is false; the footage has circulated online since 2016 in reports about a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Jeddah to Addis Ababa. The 52-second video was posted on Facebook here on June 24, 2019. The footage shows an airline cabin strewn with toilet paper, a littered carpet and flooded, soiled toilets. It has been viewed more than 10,000 times. Below is a screenshot of the misleading Facebook post. The same video was shared on Facebook here and here with a similar claim. It was also shared on Twitter here with a similar claim. The claim is false; British Airways only resumed its flights from London to Islamabad on June 2, 2019, after a 10 year hiatus. This press release gives details of the resumed service. The footage has circulated online since 2016 in reports about a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Jeddah to the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. A reverse image search on Yandex using keyframes from the video obtained through InVID found this clip on video-sharing website LiveLeak published on September 6, 2016. The headline states: ‘The disgusting state of an AirBus A330 of Saudi Arabian Airlines. The report states: The footage was reportedly filmed on a Saudia Airlines flight from Jeddah. Saudia is another name for Saudi Arabian Airlines. The incident was also reported here by Arab News on September 7, 2016, and here by Gulf Business on the same date. Some of the media reports wrongly claimed the video showed Saudi Arabian Airlines' inaugural flight from Jeddah to Addis Ababa. Saudi Arabian Airlines has operated a service from Jeddah to Addis Ababa since at least 2008, according to this report published by aviation website Routes Online on March 18, 2008. According to this report published by Routes Online on September 4, 2014, Saudi Arabian airlines reduced its flights from Jeddah to Addis Ababa to two services weekly from January 2015. As of July 2019, Saudi Arabian Airlines continued to offer flights to Addis Ababa from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International airport, according to this page on its website.
