  • A photo of a large crowd has been published in a blog post alongside a claim that hundreds of people attended the funeral of a militant killed by security forces in Indian-administered Kashmir. The claim is misleading: the photo is an Associated Press image showing anti-nuclear protesters in Tokyo, Japan in 2011. The photo was shared in this misleading blog post published on a UK based Wordpress site called ‘The Kashmiriyat’ on May 24, 2019. Below is a screenshot of the misleading blog post: The headline states: Tral Flooded by People- People from As Far as Kupwara Reach to Offer Funeral to Zakir Musa. A link to the misleading blog post was also shared in a Facebook post here by a Facebook page entitled ‘The Kashmiriyat’ on May 24, 2019. The misleading caption states in part: Hundreds of youth spent nights on streets amid heavy downpour to get a last glimpse of Zakir Musa, the Ansar Ghazwat ul Hind commander. Below is a screenshot of the misleading Facebook post: The Kashmiriyat Facebook page identifies itself as a non-Partisan info-cultural organization on its ‘About’ section here and its corresponding blog identifies itself with the same description here . Both the misleading Facebook post and the misleading blog post refer to crowds gathering at the funeral of militant Zakir Musa, who was killed by government forces in Indian-administered Kashmir on May 23, 2019. Here is an AFP report published about the incident on May 24, 2019. The same photo was shared in another Facebook post here with an identical claim copied from the misleading Kashmiriyat blog post. The claim is misleading: the photo is an Associated Press image showing anti-nuclear protesters in Tokyo, Japan in 2011. A reverse image search on Google found the same image published in this September 20, 2011 report by the Associated Press news agency about an anti-nuclear protest at a park in Tokyo. A keyword search on the image database for the Associated Press found the same image here . Below is a screenshot of the AP photo: The caption states: Tens of thousands of protesters pack a park during the anti-nuclear demonstration to call on Japan's government to abandon atomic energy in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear accident, in Tokyo, Japan, Monday, Sept. 19, 2011.
