A video has been shared repeatedly in Facebook posts that claim it shows an Afghan man clinging to an airplane wing after Kabul fell to the Taliban. The claim, however, is false: the footage was created digitally by a Vietnamese artist. The misleading video was shared on Facebook here on August 17, 2021. It was shared by a page with more than 80,000 followers. It has been viewed more than 5,000 times. The video's caption reads: #VIRALVIDEO | Citizens of Afghanistan scared of TB occupation hugging deaths and riding on the wings of the Airplane. Screenshot of the Facebook post taken on August 25, 2021 The video circulated online as desperate crowds gathered at the airport in Kabul in an attempt to flee Afghanistan after the Taliban seized control of the capital, as seen in an AFP video report here . The misleading video was also shared on Facebook here , here and here alongside a similar claim. The claim, however, is false. A Yandex reverse image search of the video's keyframes using the InVID-WeVerify tool found this YouTube video. It was uploaded on December 17, 2020 by Vietnamese artist Huy Quan Hoa . The video is a composite of photoshopped clips that purport to show Hoa the wing of an airborne plane. One of the clips shows him appearing to lie on the plane's wing: The video's title reads: General Huy Quan Hoa flies on a plane. According to the Hoa's Facebook profile , he is an online Photoshop instructor. His official YouTube account shows several other video collages and manipulated clips.
