A Facebook page only created in December 2021 claims to represent Kenya Breweries and is advertising vacancies for 2022. KENYA BREWERIES LTD (KBL) ENTRY LEVEL VACCANCIES 2022, reads a job advert shared on Facebook. Kenya Breweries Limited, or KBL, is an affiliate of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) and manufactures branded beer, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages. According to the ad , KBL is hiring for many roles, including sales representatives, drivers, office secretaries, customer care representatives and data entry clerks. Other Facebook users also shared the advert , which lists a deadline for applications of 14 January 2022. Africa Check has in the past debunked a fake job ad targeting the Kenyan brewer. But is this one genuine? We checked. Warning signs We first searched for the advertised jobs on the careers section of the KBL website but didn’t find any results that matched. The ad misspells vacancies and asks applicants to send their applications to [email protected] , a free email service unlikely to be used by a large corporation. These are some of the signs of recruitment scams, according to our guide to Facebook scams and how to spot them. The Facebook page which first posted the ad was only set up on 12 December 2021 but the brewer’s official page was established on 28 June 2017. This is another red flag that the ad is a recruitment scam. Fake job posting KBL posted a caution on Facebook on 12 January 2022, alongside a copy of the job ad stamped fake. It read: If you have come across this job posting, please note that it is fake. We advertise career opportunities through our website www.eabl.com. We do not ask for payments at any stage of our recruitment process. Kindly take caution. KBL was alerted to the ad on 4 January on Twitter, and replied it was fake. They tweeted in response: Kindly note this is a fake job posting. We advertise career opportunities through our website eabl.com.
