  • A video has been viewed thousands of times in Facebook and Twitter posts that claim it shows Muslims in India offering prayers at the Ganges river -- a holy river for Hindus. But the claim is false: the video has in fact circulated online in reports about Muslims praying in a flooded area in Bangladesh. The video has been viewed more than 7,000 times after it was shared here on Facebook on July 28, 2021. The post's Hindi-language caption translates as: This is their strategy of offering namaz at a peaceful spot on the banks of Ganga and possessing the location afterward. They have planned to build temporary shelters alongside the river and later convert them into permanent homes. Because the next war in this world will be fought over water. Now the experiment has begun to convert the Ganga into Aab-e-zam zam. Ganga is the Hindi-language term for the portion of the Ganges river that runs through India. The Ganges is a holy river in Hinduism. Namaz means Islamic prayer. Aab-e-zam zam refers to a holy well in Islam located in Masjid al-Haram in Mecca.
