A video has been viewed thousands of times in Indian social media posts that claim it shows a string of bright lights moving uniformly through the night sky over the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in September 2022. While there were reports of people in the state seeing a similar phenomenon at the time, this video has been shared in a false context. It has circulated on YouTube since at least 2020. The user who filmed the original clip told AFP it shows Starlink satellites, which provide high-speed internet service, over central Europe in August 2020. The 15-second video -- which includes three clips edited together -- was shared on Facebook here on September 13, 2022. It has been viewed more than 7,100 times. The video's Hindi-language caption reads: Breaking, locals in Farrukhabad are astonished to see a line of bright lights in the sky at around 7:30 pm. A bright object, like a small dot, was seen quickly coming out, local people captured it on their mobile phones. This was seen at various places near Farrukhabad. Starlink Train, reads the title of the two-minute 28-second video on the YouTube channel Nocne Niebo , which is Polish for night sky. The channel is run by a user who gave their name as Zbyszek . They told AFP: This video was shot on August 10, 2020 in Central Europe. I recorded all the satellite passes on my channel personally. Currently, these satellites are flying over India, but people are stealing my old video from Poland. Patrick Seitzer , a researcher from the department of astronomy at the University of Michigan, told AFP that the clip shows Starlink satellites. These satellites in the video are observed right after launch when they are very close together in a low orbit, he said. There are over 3,000 Starlinks currently in orbit. The video shared in the false posts corresponds with images of Starlink satellites published in an article published on the UK's National Space Centre website here and on the Space.com website here.
