  • CNN published a list of hate groups Thursday from the Southern Poverty Law Center that was used by a man who shot up the Family Research Council (FRC) in 2012. The outlet re-upped SPLC’s hate-group map in the wake of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville Saturday. The SPLC lists conservative groups such as the FRC as well as religious liberty groups like Alliance Defending Freedom alongside neo-Nazis and white supremacists. The individual who attacked the FRC in 2012 told the FBI that he used the map to figure out what group to target. It was uh, Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups, Floyd Corkins told the FBI when questioned on how he chose to attack the FRC. Corkins was subdued just after shooting a security guard in the arm. The same security guard helped stop Corkins before he was able to attack anyone else in the building. The FBI’s interview with Corkins was released to the public in 2013. WATCH: The SPLC has also listed Sen. Rand Paul and HUD Secretary Ben Carson as extremists. CNN claims that the SPLC’s tally is the widely accepted one. The list was certainly respected by Corkins in his attempt to murder an innocent security guard.
