  • Nollywood actor Babatunde Omidina is dead, claims a post shared on the Facebook page of a Nigerian political group in August 2020. Omidina , known professionally as Baba Suwe, is a comedian and producer. His movies include The Return of Baba Suwe (2020), Baba Sempe (2019) and Lockdown (2020). The post shows a low-res photo of the comedian with the word RIP written across it in red. Nigerian celebrities are frequently the victims of false rumours about their deaths. Could the same be true of 62-year-old Baba Suwe? ‘I am not dead’ In an article published in Nigeria’s Guardian newspaper on 22 August 2020, Omidina debunked rumours of his death. It is very disturbing that people could wake up spreading false news about you, especially sensitive and wicked news at that. I will be fine; I am not dead. I don’t think a dead man could be talking to you as I am right now, he said. Omidina asked his fans for financial support in an interview in February 2019 because his health was deteriorating. He returned to Nigeria in April of the same year after receiving medical treatment in the US. – Motunrayo Joel (en)
