  • An election poster circulating on Facebook since early March 2022 suggests that Kenyan billionaire Jimi Wanjigi is running for the governor’s seat of Nairobi county, the county’s capital, in the August general elections . It shows a photo of Wanjigi, next to title text reading NAIROBI GOVERNOR. Also prominent is the logo of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) political party associated with deputy president William Ruto. The poster includes a link to the billionaire’s website . Wanjigi officially joined the presidential race in June 2021. Current president Uhuru Kenyatta’s second and final term comes to an end this year. Wanjigi was up against Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga in the party’s presidentials nomination , but he was sidelined. Is Wanjigi now running for governor of Nairobi county under the ticket of Ruto’s party? We checked. Fake poster On 3 March, Wanjigi posted the election poster on his Facebook and Twitter pages, stamped – and captioned – FAKE.
