  • A post shared on Facebook in Nigeria claims a mixture of moringa seeds, banana, and liquid milk will cleanse the uterus and boost ovulation, helping a woman conceive. It reads : Have you been struggling with ovulation and quality eggs, then try the below recipes and testify with God Grace. The post then describes how the mix should be prepared, while warning that women should not consume it more than three times in a menstrual cycle. But is there any evidence this concoction would be beneficial? We checked. Visit a doctor for proper diagnosis Ovulation is the point in a woman’s menstrual cycle when a mature egg is released from the ovary. Ovulation is necessary for a woman to become pregnant. Adegboyega Fawole, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Ilorin in western Nigeria, said different factors can affect ovulation in women. He said there was no evidence this mixture could affect the process. I have often heard such stories, but those combinations have no effect on ovulation or producing quality eggs or helping a woman conceive fast, he said. He said: Not ovulating might be due to emotional stress, changes in the hormone system of the body, or the body not using the hormones the woman produces. Fawole urged women to seek proper medical diagnosis instead. What works for A might not work for B, so it is best to see a doctor for proper assessment. In some cases, we can prescribe treatment in the form of injections or tablets depending on the cause we are treating, he said. Africa Check has previously debunked a similar claim that mixing bananas, uncooked eggs, milk and soda will help a woman become pregnant. Both are false. (en)
