You touched something. GO BACK AND FIX IT! and don’t touch your face. ...or they waxed philosophical, referencing a surprisingly common theory thatwe all died in 2012′′ and went to hell : I’m pretty sure we were all raptured in 2012 and we all went to like hell or something cause it’s been downhill from there as we go to another circle of wtf??? Did the World End in 2012? Curtis’ Twitter prediction about 2020 wasn’t even the first of its kind that year. Not long after the death of Kobe Bryant, a 2012 tweet went viral because its creator predicted Bryant’s shocking death in a helicopter crash: Did a Twitter Post Predict Kobe Bryant’s Death in a Helicopter Crash in 2012? As we noted on that page, there is currently no known way to alter or amend Twitter’s timestamps — and as such, no known way to falsify a prediction. However, we also noted that the tweet appeared not long after a 2012 story about Bryant’s very frequent use of helicopters as a mode of conveyance. It was still a good guess, but Bryant was known to avoid Los Angeles traffic by regularly flying in a helicopter. We would also like to point out one particular point of weakness in Curtis’ prognostication. Curtis urged fellow Twitter users to enjoy 2016, which turned out to be the first of many poorly-reviewed years. So unpleasant was 2016, in fact, that it spawned a December 28 2016 parody of a horror movie trailer : On May 7 2020, we contacted Curtis to ask about his New Year’s Eve 2016 tweet, its recirculation, and if it was in some way possible to return briefly to 2016 to stash some N95 masks and Purell. Curtis confirmed: The Enjoy 2016 – it’s as good as it gets for awhile tweet was authentic, unaltered, and really posted on the evening of December 15 2015; There was no particular reason he selected 2020 as the later year; Curtis is not, in fact, capable of time travel and was joking. (We were disappointed too.) On May 1 2020, Drew Curtis retweeted his own tweet, shared as 2015 ticked over into 2016. In circulating screenshots, Curtis said he was a time traveler from 2020 and advised others to Enjoy 2016 – it’s as good as it gets for awhile; the joke landed because despite terrible intervening years, 2020 has transcended them.
