  • A Facebook post claims oil company KenolKobil is giving away free K-Gas cooking gas cylinders in Kenya as part of its corporate social responsibility during the Covid-19 outbreak. Due to the Covid-19 situation being experienced around the globe, we have come up with a program of distributing free gas cookers to at least 500 homesteads in each ward, it says . This program is free and fair and will be on a first book, first serve basis. This is our Corporate Social Responsibility. But there’s a catch. The post links to a web page where people are told to book their free gas cylinder – at a delivery fee of KSh250 for a 6 kg cylinder and KSh350 for a 13 kg cylinder. A mobile money number is given for payment . ‘Fake promotion’ The post does not link to the official KenolKobil website – a sign that it’s not legit. And KenolKobil has stamped the post as fake, explaining that it is not giving away free gas cylinders. Please beware of the below fake promotion, it posted on Facebook . K-Gas is not giving away free cylinders and the below page does not belong to us or any of our authorised K-Gas dealers. – Dancan Bwire (en)
