  • Several Indian media outlets have shared a video that purportedly shows a bridge being swept away by floodwaters in the northeastern state of Assam in May 2022. However, the video has circulated since April 2021 in news reports about flash flooding in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province. The location in the video directly corresponds with a bridge seen in the province on Google Street View. The video was shared here on the official YouTube channel of the Hindi-language news outlet Aaj Tak on May 17, 2022. It was viewed more than 35,000 times before it was removed. Its title translates in part as: Nature wreaks havoc on Assam, the bridge collapsed, the railway track was washed away in Assam flood. The video's description reads in part: Floods have caused huge destruction in Assam. The flood took away the bridge. It circulated as torrential rains battered parts of India and Bangladesh in May 2022, including Assam state, causing widespread flooding in both countries and leaving millions stranded and at least 57 dead, AFP reported . Similar videos and stills were also shared, alongside similar claims by other Indian media outlets here , here , here and here . The video and the claim were also shared by social media users in India and Bangladesh on Facebook here and here , as well as on Twitter here and here . However, the claim is false. During the video, someone can be heard saying habis – which means finished or gone in Indonesian – several times. Once the bridge has been swept away, the person says: The old bridge is finished. A combination of a reverse image search and keyword searches found this video, which was posted on Instagram on April 4, 2021. The post's Indonesian-language caption reads: Sunday, April 4. The Kambaniru bridge in Waingapu, eastern Sumba, was destroyed by flood. Waingapu is a town located in the eastern part of Sumba island, in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province.
