  • In December 2021, social media users in the United Kingdom and Ireland shared photographs of what appeared to be a bizarre new condiment or sauce, combining Heinz mayonnaise with the flavor of Terry's Chocolate Orange — a traditional confectionary favorite in the British Isles. For example, on Dec. 4 the Irish radio station FM 104 posted a picture of what appeared to be a jar of the unlikely combination, asking followers, Would you try it? That picture was reposted from the Instagram account @newfoodsuk, which published several additional photographs of the product. Heinz and other food manufacturers have in the past released unusual or exotic-flavor combinations or crossovers with other brands, but such promotions are also occasionally the subject of hoaxes. In this case, the orange-chocolate-flavored mayonnaise was, weirdly, a real thing, so we are issuing a rating of True. Between Dec. 1 and 13, consumers in the U.K. could enter a draw to win one of 200 jars of the limited run chocolate mayo, by liking and commenting under promotional social media posts, and providing their name and contact details. In Ireland, consumers could win one of 75 jars through a similar competition. A news release provided to Snopes explained that the one-off spread was a result of mixing the following ingredients: A spokesperson for Kraft Heinz in the United States told Snopes that, as of December 2021, there were no plans to bring the Heinz / Terry's Chocolate Orange mayonnaise to North America.
