  • A post on the Facebook page Free Laptops From Lenovo Kenya claims the multinational tech company has come up with a program to donate as many laptops as we we can. According to the post , Lenovo is giving out 2,000 laptops in every county in Kenya, in partnership with the country’s ministry for information, communication and technology. The 16 June 2020 post says the selection process will be free and fair and will be based on a first come, first served basis and links to a webpage with further details. It says this Wordpress blog is our official website, but that’s not true. Lenovo doesn’t maintain an official Kenyan website, but lists Kenyan contact details on its international website at https://www.lenovo.com/ke/en/contact/ . And there’s another catch. Although the post claims laptops will be donated, applicants are asked to pay KSh300 to enter the draw. Despite these warning signs, is the giveaway genuine? We checked. ‘Definitely a scam’ The admin support team at Lenovo Kenya told Africa Check this is a fake advert. There is no such advert run by Lenovo and there is no such partnership. That's definitely a scam and no one should take it seriously, Lenovo said. (en)
